Starter: Baptism is sign that something has happened to you. What do you remember about your baptism?
1. Read Matthew 3:13-17
2. What do you think went through John’s mind when he saw Jesus in line to be baptized?
3. John wants Jesus to baptize him; Jesus refuses and tells John to baptize him. In your opinion, are religious leaders today as humble as John? Why or why not?
4. Jesus says he needs to be baptized to fulfill all righteousness. What does it say to you that Jesus was willing to the right thing, even though it was not necessary for him.
5. What do you think Jesus experienced when he saw the Spirit descending as a dove and heard the voice of his Heavenly Father? What did he feel? What did he think?
6. In your opinion, how can we encourage people to identify with Jesus? Do we erect unintended barriers?
