The Path to Freedom – Week 2

Galatians 5:16-23

Bottom Line: Put Christ on Display

16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever[a] you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

- In this series – Path to Freedom

o Talking about something that we all want, but find it so hard to get, and if we think we get it, it’s hard to keep - Freedom.

o But last week we learned that God wants you free

-freedom isn’t our own selfish happy place.

-being free means being connected to Christ.

o So as you live your life, who is put on display?

-At work – success for who (give examples/personal stories)

-When you’re in an argument – are you more concerned with being right or making sure this person             sees Jesus in you.

-When you correct someone – do you want them to see you as better than them or do you want them to see Christ in you?

o This is the path to freedom.

-You are free to stop worrying about yourself, your reputation, your image, your past, your baggage.

-You can stop putting yourself on the pedestal – and die to yourself.

Living in Freedom means dying to yourself.

o Let’s make it a point – as we live our lives, as we interact with others and with each other

to turn the eyes of the world away from of us and put them upon Christ.
