Taking place in the titular city of Belfast, during the Troubles in Northern Ireland, Buddy and his family struggle to make ends meet amidst the increasing and violent tensions between the Protestant and Catholic residents of the city. Despite the aftermath of a violent riot, Buddy goes about life discovering his first love and enjoying his days as a child. Yet, with financial pressures placed upon his parents, as well as the growing rumblings from his Protestant neighbors, Buddy finds that his life in Belfast may never be the same.
