Queen Nani or Nanny, who was the leader in the 18th century for the Jamaican Maroon. They formerly were an enslaved group of Africans who, under her leadership, fought for a guerrilla war over many years against British authorities in the Colony of Jamaica in what we know as the First Maroon War. While most of the information we know about Queen nanny is amazing, she does not have many written documents and facts about her as a leader, most of the information we have is from oral tellings. She did not get the credit she deserved for what she did, as the British suffered many losses when battling her people thanks to her strong leadership. In 1975, the government of Jamaica declared Nanny as their only female national hero, celebrating her success as a leader.
