Description

Have you ever felt like an outsider?

Do you look at people and wish you had what they had or could do what they do?

Are you living a life that fulfills you? Or are you waiting for life to happen to you?

This episode is for you if you’re still waiting for your life of significance to happen.

Growing up and well into adulthood, I felt like an outsider. I was like Charlie Bucket staring in the candy store window at the kids enjoying the sweet life–literally.

Three Styles - three ways people get what they want:

Assertive Style: The assertive style knows what they want and need and goes directly after it. Assertive people meet people and obstacles head-on, push to get what they want to ensure life works to their advantage.

Compliant Style: The compliant style prefers getting what they want or need by doing things the “right way” to be “good.” They’re trying to get what they want by using time-tested approaches rather than creating new ways or strategies.

Withdrawn Style: This style sits back and waits for the world to bring them what they want or need without demanding or imposing. It’s easier to blame others instead of owning their part in the story.

Mindset shift: Is this style really working for me?

Assertive: You may get what you want but at what cost? People can struggle relating to you or may feel bullied into giving in. Try a different approach that invites reflection so you can tune into others’ needs before acting.

Compliant: Invite you to connect with your inner voice and values instead of looking to the group’s norms and standards to get what you want. God said if you lack wisdom, He will give it generously.

Withdrawn: Because we isolate ourselves, we neglect assertive and compliant ways of engaging and collaborating with others. Then miss out on opportunities to build trusting relationships. Stretch yourself to connect to people and environments to make your voice heard.

Seek out and reach for your dreams.

Don’t wait for them to come to you.

Are you waiting for your life of significance to drop into your lap? Dig up your talent and put it to work. (Matthew 25)

Don’t wait for permission to shine.

What do you want? Take a step towards it.
