Hope. It’s something most of us would probably say we could use a little more of. But what is it really? Romans 15:13 says, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Two things immediately catch my attention here: 1) God is the God of hope— he is the source of hope and the one who gives hope 2) We can overflow and abound in hope not through our own making, but by the power of the Holy Spirit.
If I were tasked with describing hope to someone who had never heard or experienced it before, I think I would start by telling them what hope feels like, what it looks like, what it sounds and smells like, and what it tastes like. Here’s what I would say...
