Welcome back to But What Do We Know! This week, Zoe and Daniel sit down to chat about the recent removal of the Robert E. Lee statue in Virginia. The statue was originally installed about 130 years ago and was the largest confederate statue in Richmond, VA. Over the past several years, we have seen confederate statues across the U.S. get vandalized and we've seen movements like Black Lives Matter and Indigenous groups fight for their removal. We take a moment to unpack what these monuments really represent and why their removal cause so much controversy across different communities. Daniel also compares the statues we see in the U.S. to the monuments that he is used to seeing in Guyana, and the duo chat about why those differences might exist. Be sure to let us know what you think!
