West Side Story follows the story of Tony and Maria as they fall in love despite their associations to rival gangs (Jets & Sharks.) West Side Story was inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and gives it a modern spin - taking place in West Side Manhattan in the 1950s. Originally produced in 1957, there have been multiple movies and reproductions made with today’s group discussing the June 2023 production at the Chicago Lyric Opera.
