Description

Oscar and Emmy nominated Director Skye Fitzgerald in early 2020 immediately prior to the pandemic lock-down, the film offers an intimate glimpse into the experiences of malnourished children and their families surviving in Yemen’s hunger wards that often serve as the last hope against war and starvation.

As a conflict zone with multiple international players deeply invested in the conflict, access to Yemen is tightly controlled and notoriously difficult to access for journalists and filmmakers. The Hunger Ward team gained unprecedented access to stories behind the front lines of the war that speak to the true cost of the conflict.

Fitzgerald and Hunger Ward are currently in consideration for the Critics Choice Awards Best Short Documentary, qualifying in just under 50 minutes. I spoke with Fitzgerald about Yemen being used for a Proxy War between Saudi Arabia and Iran, why the world has turned a blind eye to the Yemenis and this man made famine that violates every human right on the planet Earth.

We discuss how this began under the Obama administration and continued on through the Trump presidency, of which both completely ignored and both funded the Saudis by selling weapons to the Arab kingdom allowing this war on Yemen to continue.

Yemen was not a Third World Country 6 years ago, but under funding from both administrations, while being ignored by Europe and the rest of the Middle East, they are suffering in all through this unjust and horrifying famine that the world should be ashamed of.

Hunger Ward is a part of a trilogy of documentaries produced by Spin Film and what has been happening in the Middle East over the half decade.
