Description

We are back from hiatus and hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. In this episode, we jump right in where we left off in our serial by covering Chapter 9 from the book How to Wake a Sleeping Lady by Bree Wolf. As a reminder if you want to read along with us, this title is available on Amazon Kindle (and with an Unlimited subscription, it is free!).

In this chapter, titled the Beast of Ravensgrove, we finally learn Eugenie's fate (as determined by men because why would a woman be free to choose her own future?). And for those of you keeping score . . . Amy was right! We have a Beauty and Beast story coming as book two in the series, featuring Genie as our heroine. Full disclosure, we briefly contemplated abandoning this story and jumping right into Genie's book. But ultimately we decided that wouldn't be fair to our listeners. So we will keep chugging along in book one at least for the time being.

In this episode we continue to try to understand the twisted logic inside of Grant's head, and wrap our heads around where the author is going with this story. At this point it would take a miracle for Grant to be redeemed in our eyes. And as far as Amy is concerned this book better have a good conspiracy to keep it interesting or she is going to start skimming the rest of the story!

Here are some baffling Grant decisions in this book:

- Why does he think it is a good idea to entrust the care of the mother of his child (and child) into the hands of someone he hasn't been close to in years?

- And with a recluse in a an isolated castle no less?

- Is his end game to foist her and his child off on someone else and then. . .never see or hear from them again?

- How is Grant going to keep Eugenie's existence a secret from Nessa? Will he add bribing a young child to secrecy to his list of misdeeds?

- How does he see all of this playing out in the long run? We don't see this as a well thought out plan.

Our wagers/predictions for the story after reading this chapter are:

- Did Adrian have something to do with Eugenie's brother's death? (Beth says "Most definitely.")

- How will Eugenie respond to Grant's plan (if she is even given the opportunity to respond)? (Sadly she will have no choice and have to accept so does it really even matter?)

- One thing is abundantly clear - Eugenie is going to be WAY better off with Adrian than Grant.

- Does Amy need to let go of her conspiracy theory with the carriage accident? Will the accident ever be relevant to the remaining chapters in this book? (We sure hope so because there is SO much of this book left to get through and we need something interesting to keep us engaged with these characters.)

- Will we actually complete this book, or will our next episode be chapter one of book two in the series? Stay tuned to find out!
