We continue to stumble our way through the ups and downs of the book How to Wake a Sleeping Lady by Bree Wolf. In today's episode we talk through the happenings in Chapters 7 and 8, the titles of which should be: "We Finally Find out Genie's Fate". The wait is over, Grant is cleaning house by doing some "wife" spring cleaning and getting rid of that pesky superfluous wife so that he can make room for his one true love Nessa. Can you tell how we feel about our hero? Be advised that many air quotes were used and the snark is laid on pretty thick during the recording of this episode. Suffice it to say we don't hold him in high esteem, that's for sure (Beth mentions her desire to stab him in the eye with a knitting needle at one point) and he is the hero we love to hate . . .or just hate.
But we try to put our rage against Grant aside as best we can to focus on the bombshell that Eugenie drops (let's just say Beth won one of the wagers). But Grant's reaction just ends up enraging us once again. Based on this one interaction between Grant and Genie we make some assumptions as to what married life must have been like for these two and we start to realize maybe she is better off without Grant in her life, maybe she made a narrow escape. This might just be the best thing that happened to Genie in the long run.
Predictions and Wagers from this chapter (sorry for any repeats, we can't keep all these predictions straight at this point):
- Will Grant even tell Nessa about Eugenie? Or will someone else spill the beans?
- How will Nessa react when she finds out? We hope she is as pissed as we are or she isn't the woman we think she is and these two narcisists deserve each other.
- Adrian, Grant's mysterious friend, will be the salvation of Eugenie - we are thinking a marriage of convenience?
Finally, if the main plot point/drama of this book is NOT one of Amy's conspiracy theories about the carriage accident, our snarky sisters will be rewriting a better ending to this story. We better not be torturing ourselves reading through Grant's clap trap without at least an interesting plot twist to make it all worth it in the end.
