Description

When you think about history makers, I think it is important to not only recognize but celebrate the contributions that young adults have and continue to make in shaping history whether it’s on a worldwide stage or in their local communities. In honor of Women’s History Month, I wanted to recognize four young women, ages 14-23, who are in middle school, high school, college, and medical school. My conversations with each of these young women was so pleasant as we discussed their faith, friendships, future aspirations in addition to sharing their personal challenges and accomplishments.
Today’s guest is Alyssa Odom, a 20-year-old Public Health Education major who originally thought she would become a pediatric oncology nurse and was disappointed when she wasn’t able to pass the exam that would allow for her to continue with that field of study. What she would later discover is the plan that God that will allow for her to serve communities of color, a passion that she shares with her dad.
As I think about my conversation with Alyssa, this passage of scripture comes to mind, our conversation, this scripture comes to mind, “many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails." Proverbs 19:21, NIV
