The new year is looking Brotastic! Philip and Andrew are back from the break and start off Season 2 of Cinematic Brotastic with Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse, a unique blend of animation styles that don’t clash, but rather creates a one of a kind viewing experience that has the added bonus of being family friendly as well.
The Cast includes Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, Hailee Steinfeld, Mahershala Ali, Brian Tyree Henry, Lily Tomlin, Luna Lauren Valez, Zoё Kravitz, John Mulaney, Kimiko Glenn, Nicolas Cage, Kathryn Hahn, Live Schreiber, Chris Pine, Natalie Morales, Oscar Isaac, Greta Lee, and Stan Lee.
Philip and Andrew welcome each other back from the break and talk about what they have seen in the meantime. Both saw Skyscraper, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, but not together. Tey then discussed what TV show they were hooked on at the momen: Philip is watching “The Walking Dead’ and Andrew is hooked on “Manifest” on NBC.
Now into the Spider-verse! At first Andrew was reluctant to take his children to see the film fearing it would be too violent or inappropriate. However, upon hearing that Philip was going to take his children, Andrew reevaluated his opinion. After looking at a parental guide to how appropriate films are for families, Andrew was comfortable taking his children.
Philip and Andrew had few complaints, if you could call them that, about Spider-man: Into the Spider-verse. Green Goblin was huge for some reason, making him more like a monster than a costumed villain. Then there was Prowler, a Batmanesque villain that neither brother was familiar with. Almost thought it was newly invented for the film.
This film featured not one Spider-man, but 6 Spider-people. Miles Morales who is the subject of the film, hen there was Peter Parker, we all know him. Next up is Gwen Stacy, a love interest of Peter's, but this version has the spider powers instead. now on to the even lesser known heroes. Spider-man Noir, a Humphrey Bogart style Peter Parker hailing from a black and white dimension, and of all the doors he had to walk. into, he had to walk into ours. Peni Parker, a Japanese animé styled version from the future, sporting a spider-mech suit operated by a spider that was also her father? And last but not least, Spider-Ham, a pig named Peter Porker, who has spider powers.
Touching back on the unfamiliarity of the Prowler, Miles Morales has the powers of Spider-man, and then some. On top of wall crawling, he has Venom Strike, a directed energy from his hands that causes paralysis. Then he has camouflage, an ability to match his surroundings that makes him virtually invisible. After looking these up, Philip and Andrew quickly realized they are cannon to the comics.
The Brothers Brotastic equally rated this film Two Tickets. It's fun, its family friendly, its unique, and both would go back to the theater in a heartbeat.
Until Next time, we'll see you at the movies.
