Description

Philip surprises Andrew with an early entry into the Superhero Film Lexicon with Swamp Thing. Watching the beginning of the film to see if Andrew can guess what the film is, Andrew guesses very quickly. They then discuss the 3rd film from DC comics following Superman I and II. How does it hold up? Well, that’s a mixed bag…

When Andrew is told the film is a comic book movie and the opening shot is of a swamp, it’s not hard to guess what it is. Philip and Andrew then discuss how well this film has aged. In some ways well, in other ways, not so much. attitudes toward women are very different, and things happen in the workplace that would make HR cringe.

Some costumes hold up, some not so much. Andrew is impressed with the fact that this film was in fact filmed in a swamp, which he imagines would be very difficult on the actors, the crew, the gear, etc… yet they pulled it off. Today the film would most likely be filmed in a pool on a sound stage.

Philip and Andrew then applaud the character of Jude, played by Reggie Batts, which seems to be his only film roll according to IMDd. His character required the Brothers Brotastic to pause the movie with basically every line he delivered because it was so funny, they had to collect themselves.

Philip and Andrew then discuss whether or not nostalgic films are worth revisiting like classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey. Some films just imprint onto you, no matter what, they will always be great, even bad films. But then there are films you think are awesome, but then you watch it, and you take back what you said.

Until next time, we’ll see you at the movies!
