The story of Elisha at Dothan in 2 Kings 6 is an image of what it looks like for people to live self protection mode. We were created to be known and loved freely but when we create a "life on a hill" where we keep others at bay because of fear and shame, we only cut ourselves off from the very thing we were created to experience. Astonishingly we play this same game with God, living self defense, and the consequences are the same. We miss out on the freedom of being known and loved by our Creator and Abba.
