In Galatians 5 Paul implores us not to go back. We have been set free from our sin nature and from law, so then remain free! Don't be set free only to pick up another bondage. When we are born again with Christ as our righteousness, we are set free from performing and hoping we do enough to please God. Rest in that truth, and be free to truly live in relationship and communion with our God who is crazy in love with us!
