The Apostle John states that he wrote his account of Jesus' life and ministry in order that the readers would believe in Jesus and find life. Knowing this it is significant that John introduces the idea of grace so early on where none of the other gospel writers do. John wanted the reader to understand that grace was central to finding the abundant life that can only be found in Christ. For the believer, we need to properly understand what grace is, and how it is different than mercy. It can be a difficult pill to swallow because we struggle to believe how good this news actually is...We still get caught on the "undeserving" portion of the definition of grace, when God has permanently changed that part of our lives. For the born again person, the result is God 100% for you 100% of the time.
