Its safety right?

Are you and your loved ones OK?

You don’t think that the safety issue might come up later after your vehicle is repaired…Why would you?

You trust that your repairer will do what your paid Insurance Policy is meant to take care of. Sadly it’s a lot more complicated than that.

In this episode we drill down to what’s really happening with car insurers, recommended repairers and the policies with Graham Judge, director of Collision Safety Consultants. Graham helps consumers who have a problem with a repair or purchase of a vehicle.

00:00 Intro

01:04 Do you read the insurance PDS?

02:17 The NSW govt has a website that gives you 5 CTP insurance options

02:43 The online tool for comparing comprehensive car insurance options is owned by an insurance company with its own algorithms

03:57 Be sure you can choose your own vehicle repairer

04:15 Recommended repairers will repair cars for the insurers for less than the non-recommended repairs 04:51 Do you want a repairer to repair to a price for work on your car?

05:54 The repairers don’t want to argue with the insurance companies so they get Graham in to help the customer

06:58 Cars are getting more complex

07:38 In the last 3 years Graham has found 82 vehicles that have been repaired need to actually go on the written-off register

8:19 Want an example? When a radar unit is not repaired it can cause horrendous accidents

08:51 The Motor Car Repair Industry regulator is NSW Fair Trading

09:28 They started in 1980 with 50 inspectors and now have 6 motor vehicle inspectors across the entire state of NSW for more than 600 million vehicles

10:16 Can a repairer be expected to be across 70 different brands of cars with their makes and models without additional training?

11:22 Almost all industries that require a qualification also require continuous professional development but not this one

11:58 Insurers are now under the Corporations Act so they HAVE to act honestly, fairly and efficiently so you’re entitled to ask questions and be answered

12:50 What do you expect from your car insurance policy?
