Imagine God instructs you to do something that defies common sense, challenging everything you believe. What would you do? Would you hesitate? Just as physical actions become habits, requiring determination to break them, the same applies to spiritual matters. You'll encounter situations where you come close to doing what Jesus desires, but you'll back away at the crucial test, unless you're resolute enough to fully surrender yourself to God. However, we often respond with reservations, saying, "Yes, but what if I obey God in this matter? What about...?" Or we might say, "Sure, I'll obey God as long as it aligns with my common sense, but I won't take blind leaps of faith."
Jesus Christ expects believers to exhibit the same daring and adventurous spirit that natural individuals possess. To accomplish anything meaningful, there will be moments when one must risk everything by taking a leap of faith into the unknown. In the spiritual realm, Jesus Christ demands that you risk everything you hold dear or trust based on common sense, and instead leap into what He commands with faith. When you obey, you'll discover that His words are just as reliable and consistent as common sense.
While Jesus Christ's statements may seem absurd when judged by common sense, if you test them with faith, you'll be filled with the overwhelming realization that they are the very words of God. Trust God completely, and when He presents you with a new opportunity for adventure, embrace it wholeheartedly. In times of crisis, we often act like pagans, but only a courageous few have the audacity to invest their faith in the character of God.
