Episode 8 of the Strength Through Food Freedom Podcast is up! As always, this one is informative, passionate, and was made for the women, or men, out there, that are struggling through their silence of their binge eating, purging, emotional eating, or body image issues.
*
When you have experienced an eating disorder, or have struggled with food, it can seem quite terrifying, for some people, to open up to their boyfriend, husband, family, or friends. We are so embarrassed with the shame that our behaviors and struggles has caused us, that the last thing you feel like you want to do, is put that burden on to those who love you.
*
I so, remember feeling this way. I felt like I had to be Wonder Woman in everyone’s eyes. I would feel so ashamed, scared, and would feel like I was living a double life with my ED.
*
You see, I didn’t just wake up one day with courage to talk to Daren, about my struggles. What allowed me to do so, was finally realizing, that what I was doing, was not healthy. I hit rock bottom. I looked at this beautiful, caring man, who loved me, and LET IT OUT. I had to have the courage for myself, to be open to him. He needed to know what I was doing behind the scenes of what looked like I was just “really healthy”. He needed to know about my struggles, what caused my ED, he needed to know about that chapter of my life, so that we could build a life together. With no secrets, or shame.

Sure, I was scared, but telling him about my struggles, and learning how to talk to him about them, allowed him to be an even greater sense of support for me. There were times, that all I had to do was look at Daren, and he would know exactly what I was feeling, and would hug me, and tell me that it would all be ok. In those moments, I felt a sense of support in my ED, that I never thought was possible.
*
Telling others of your struggles is one of the first steps in recovery, and to your journey of strength through food freedom. I promise you girl, it is worth every scared thought you may have, but doing so, will allow you to lift this burden off of your chest, finally, and forever.
