A note about this week’s intro/outro: late last week, Daryl Grove of the Total Soccer Show (TSS), a podcast I (Akshay) listen to religiously, passed away after a two-year fight with cancer. If you’ve ever listened to TSS, you’ll notice Daryl’s typical intro for the show sounds a lot like mine — or rather, mine sounds like his, because he’s where I cribbed it from (along with a little bit of inspiration from The Solid Verbal). I’ve never met either of the duo behind TSS, but he’s had such an impact on the way I consume sport (albeit a different one) and the American soccer community that it seemed fitting to use his intro and outro style — verbatim, this time (well, mostly) — in today’s episode. One of the things Daryl was best about was “radical inclusion”, making sure that you were always welcome to sit around the table with he and his co-host Taylor and join in their conversations, regardless of who you were or what they were discussing. Hopefully, our episodes every week have a similar impact on you (though obviously, we can’t hope to do things as well as he did). Our thoughts and prayers to Daryl’s family and friends — may he rest in peace.
