Mako San tells Russell about a strange occurence that happened with her cat.

Vocabulary and Phrases:

1. "It looks like you have something on your mind." = Do you want to tell me something?

2. "Is there something you want to get off your chest?" = Is there something you have wanted to tell me for a long time that will give you relief?

3. "Is there something you're dying to talk about?" = Is there something you really want to talk about?

***Also used as..."dying to go", "dying to meet her", "dying to hear about your trip", "dying to test drive that car", etc.

4. Electric Clippers: 電気バリカン (denki barikan)

5. Sparrow: a small Old World bird related to the weaver birds, typically with brown and grey plumage.

6. "Did you try to recuscitate it?" = revive (someone) from unconsciousness or apparent death. 蘇生する (Sosei suru)

***'Recuscitate' is often used more informally for companies, towns, neighborhoods, the economy, etc...."The Prime Minister tried many things to recuscitate the economy.

7. "Did you check his pulse?" = to measure IF someone's heart is beating (or) to measure HOW FAST someone's heart is beating.

8. "Maybe he was playing possum." = when animals pretend to be dead to avoid danger. People can play possum, too!

EXAMPLE:

a. While we were camping in the forest, we encountered a bear.

b. You did? What did you do?

a. We played possum.

b. Did it work?

a. Yes, I'm alive, aren't I? The bear sniffed us and walked away.

9. "Look what the cat dragged in." = Look who's here! People use this expression to acknowledge that someone new has entered a room or space. The phrase usually implies that the entering person is disagreeable in some way. We often use this when the person is late or has a messy physical appearance.
