Description

This week we welcomed the one & only Dr. Eric Helms (@helms3dmj) to the podcast. Eric is a research fellow at Auckland University of Technology, chief science officer for 3DMJ, MASS contributor, coach & pro natural bodybuilder - a busy guy you could say.

This podcast was centred around how to balance bodybuilding & powerlifting. Both sports or outside of sport, the pursuit of strength & size, have many commonalities but subtle differences in programming, periodisation & planning competitions into the year.

Eric has both the experience competing in a multitude of sports within the same year having competed in bodybuilding, strongman & powerlifting & has trained others to this stage at a high level too.

Having been Helms fans for years it was great to chat with the man himself & I hope you enjoy the episode!

Topics covered:

05:20 How Eric got into lifting & competing

11:30 Training differences between powerlifting & bodybuilding

18:00 Training-specific adaptation
