Dr. Mahesh Sankaran – winner of the Infosys Prize 2021 in the Life Sciences category, who is currently a Professor of Ecology and Evolution at the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) in Bangalore.
Dr. Sankaran’s area of expertise too is in the community and ecosystems ecology where in his lab looks at interactions and feedbacks between climate, biogeochemistry, fires and herbivory influence of ecosystems. He also studies and deals with the projected changes in climate such as increasing variability of rainfall, frequency of droughts, increasing aridity in the tropics, and rising CO2 and their impact on the ecosystem function, stability and services.
