Week 4 of I AM

The world can feel like a dangerous place. What do we do in the face of that danger and our fear? What reassurances do we have in God? Jesus declares that “I am the gate for the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and robbers… Those who come in through me will be saved.” A gate keeps out those who mean to hurt the sheep while providing access to those who would care for them. At the same time, it is one of the weirder images Jesus uses. What is Jesus really offering as the gate for the sheep? If it is simply protection, then why does the world still feel so dangerous? Let us listen to what Jesus is teaching and what it means to be a gate for us.
