As Easter nears we prepare to rejoice in our victory through Christ. But before there was victory there was defeat, a cross had to come before the crown. The story of redemption tells us that this is Felix Culpa; a fortunate fall. It is the worst of humanity that stains the glass of grace and gives it color. In our weakness we are strong. Join Damascus Road this Easter season for Felix Culpa, as we consider the fortunate fall that results in the greatest story of grace and redemption.
Week 2 of Felix Culpa
Teacher: Tyler Stibrich
We have ideas and expectations about how things should be that fail when tested by the refining fires of reality. Peter would become the rock of the church, but first his ideas and expectations of who Jesus was had to go through a trial by fire. Yes, he knew Jesus was the messiah, the long awaited king, but what kind of promised king is betrayed, arrested, and murdered? Out of flames and failed expectations, Jesus is revealed to be not the messiah Peter expected, but the one he needed. Likewise, what fortunate fall must we experience to reveal to us who Christ really is that we may experience the true grace of the cross?
