Welcome back to Daily Gains 90! In this crucial installment of our 90-day reset through First John (NASB), Pastors Jeremy and Joseph tackle the uncompromising conclusion to the chapter, focused entirely on 1 John 1:10: "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar and his word is not in us".
DECEPTION VS. DIVINE TRUTH: John delivers a direct challenge to deeply rooted human nature: the universal tendency to blame shift and self-justify, a pattern seen from Adam and Eve to the self-righteous Pharisee. If we claim to be without sin, we are simultaneously deceiving ourselves (a parallel statement found in verse 8) and making God a liar.
The Word of Life and the Light/Dark Binary: This rejection of personal sin directly impacts our relationship with the Word of Life introduced in 1 John 1:1. John maintains the strict binary paradigm established earlier: just as God is light and in him there is no darkness at all, there is no gray area when confronting sin. If His Word—the embodiment of truth—is absent from us, true fellowship with God and the community of believers is impossible.
The Path to Fellowship and Forgiveness: This confrontation serves as a necessary mirror, applying equally at the individual level and the corporate church level. We must move beyond surface-level conversation and embrace intentional vulnerability and accountability. John “sandwiches” this stern warning with the powerful invitation of 1 John 1:9: the path to reconciliation and cleansing from all unrighteousness begins with honest confession.
Tune in Monday through Friday as we continue our verse-by-verse journey, strengthening our relationship with God and embracing the challenging, yet essential, truth required for genuine eternal life.
