Today we discuss the story of Sultan Mehmet Al Fatih. This name and title is translated as Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. This title was given to him because he did what his predecessors could not, and conquered the heavily fortified city of Constantinople. Today, we have the Muslim city of Istanbul due to his efforts. This was a monumental accomplishment and event in our history as Muslims.
Our Beloved, RasoolAllah ﷺ, said:
‘Verily you shall conquer Constantinople. What a wonderful leader will her leader be, and what a wonderful army will that army be!’
[Musnad Ahmad, Al Hakim, al Jami’ al Saghir]
*Note: There is speculation amongst the honorable scholars of Hadith about who exactly this hadith is referring to. Mixed opinions amongst the scholars compel us laymen to leave it up God. Allah and His Rasool ﷺ know best.*
