TRUE CRIME IRL MURDER MINUTE – “Lyman Had A Lover”
I am Kelli Berens Brink, and THIS is the True Crime IRL murder Minute! One murder – in one minute – let’s get started!
On September 28th, 1951, the body of 65-year-old Lyman Elledge was found on the front lawn of one of his neighbors, Barney Wiskus, in their Delaware County Iowa community. The county coroner said that he died of a skull fracture wound to the back of the head. there were no solid leads – and soon, the case went cold. Fast forward to the 1980’s…and there’s a new Sheriff in town. That new Sherriff, Bert Elledge – was actually related to the victim, and he reopened the case, making it his mission to solve it. And, although it was UNoffical – solve it he did. Turns out, Lyman and his wife were estranged. And Lyman …had a lover. BUT, his lover also had ANOTHER boyfriend. Oh, what a tangled web we weave. The other man walked in on Lyman and his lady in the heat of passion, and he saw red. Lyman threw on his clothes, but no shoes - and ran down the street, being chased by the other angry man. He lost his glasses in the pursuit and was bludgeoned over the head with a heavy wooden club. Lyman crawled to Barney Wiskus’s front yard, where he finally succumbed to his injuries and was found dead later that morning. Although justice may have never been served, we can consider this Case closed…It’s the oldest story in the book. This has been your murder minute. One murder, in one minute. On True Crime IRL, and I’m Kelli Berens Brink. Until next time – lock your doors people…especially if you have a lover, who has a lover, who has a lover- who’s chasing you with a big wooden club…. Bye bye
