Self-care is setting up your future self for success.

That absolutely could include manicures, bubble baths, and trips to wander the aisles of Target.  But stopping there is not self-care; that is indulgence.

Self-care at its core is putting your future self first – making sure you, a few days from now, is not cleaning up the messes of your present self.

Sometimes doing the laundry is self-care; other times, others, it is meal prep and getting yourself to the gym, and of course, sometimes it is the exact opposite, and the most caring thing you can do for yourself is lying on the couch and chill.
