Description

For 63 years, John Robert Lewis has been a beacon of fire for African-Americans seeking justice and equality. Throughout his lifetime, he has tried to ensure that Black folk's civil rights, regardless of age, religion, income, or education, have been upheld. From the early age of 17yr, John Lewis has offered himself a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which was his reasonable service.

John didn't understand why the water fountain, the bathroom, or the waiting areas, said Black or white. But what he did know was that it wasn't right. It wasn't just. And it wasn't equal. And to John, that meant it wasn't fair, and someone needed to do something about it. So, he decided to do just that, fight for fairness, fight for what was right, and fight for justice and equality.

So, he marched. He sat in. He non-violently disrupted social norms by going in the front door and sitting at the lunch counters that prohibited Blacks from sitting. He brought attention to the injustices imposed upon Black people. And by doing so, he shed light on the civil rights violations city and state governments were committing against African-Americans.

Now as we discuss his legacy his service, his impact on America and what it means, joining me is Speaker, Author, CNN Commentator, USA Today, The Daily Beast, the Washington Post, and the NY Daily News Opinion Contributor, Sophia Nelson; along with former State Senator and former Candidate for Mayor, Senator Vincent Fort.
