Riordan displays a character different from his regular protagonists, in the form of Anna Dakkar, who does not have any superhuman abilities, but instead has worked on her skills, and her intelligence. Most of the book revolves around her, and her brother, and the duo’s interactions with the various elements that fuel the technology of this world nobody truly knows about.
