In this episode, we discuss Edwin Valero, whose dark and turbulent life culminated in him murdering his wife and killing himself at the age of just 28. As a fighter, he set a then world record winning his first 18 fights by way of first round knockout and was on course to fight Manny Pacquiao in a dream mega fight before tragedy stuck. We discuss his early life and consider who would have likely won, had Edwin fought Manny Pacquiao and other elite fighters of his era such as Juan Manuel Marquez, Joel Casamayor and Acelino Freitas. We also consider the many gym 'tales' surrounding Edwin, which merely add to the legend of a fearsome, savage fighter who never took it easy on anyone. Finally, we do not shy away from Edwin's dark side as we consider his drink and drug addiction and mental health issues as well as a system that seemed more intent on covering up his misdemeanours as opposed to getting him the help he so desperately needed. This is a cracking, yet dark episode so buckle up! We hope you enjoy. SFX from Freesound.org by 18hiltc & benboncan.
