53 years ago today, a rock festival in Woodstock helped define a generation. Today our guests are Dan Bukszpan and Karen M. Greenburg, who created the gorgeous book “Woodstock: 50 Years of Peace and Music”.
Their unique book captures the magic — from concert details, never-before-published photos and tales of the brown acid — to interviews with the attendees and the artists 50 years later.
(Your host Gail was among a half million young people there. At 14 years old she can be glimpsed in the Woodstock movie, which zooms in on her twirling a daisy. Her photos and stories are also featured in the book.)
Dan and Karen share why they created the book, the experiences they had putting it together, and new friendships (including Gail) that arose as the team put the book together. Woodstock could only happen once and was a once in a lifetime experience — yet it lives on in our ideas, feelings, books like this one, and people still living it.
