Description

Providing care to patients with a lens on patient's individual needs, values, beliefs, and behaviors around the topic of health as it relates to cultural factors is an essential skill to develop as a student. Cultural competence is defined as the ability of providers to understand and integrate various factors related to a patient into the delivery and structure of care provided. In this episode, we will review some of the common strategies to improve provider-patient interactions, effective communication strategies, models for effective cross-cultural communication, and conversation tips for you to use when you are providing care to individuals. When using health promotion tools such as the health belief model, you want to incorporate culture-specific attitudes and values into these tools.

As I say.... "Those who know will grow."
