Description

The gingival exam is conducted as part of the assessment and provides the clinician with a cursory view of the gingival health. There are specific clinical markers that can be indicators for either the presence or absence of disease. It is important for the clinician to understand the clinical markers, descriptors associated with the markers, and the indicators that are connected to the presence of disease. An in depth understanding of the gingival assessment will provide the clinician with the initial information needed to move ahead with a periodontal evaluation and radiographic interpretation in a way that is inclusive and correlates with the gingival assessment to develop a comprehensive understanding of the patients overall periodontal health status.
