Description

On this episode of the podcast, we spoke with AJ Alvarez. AJ is a senior at FSU earning his BA in Theater. He is also the artistic director of Rogue Productions based in Tallahassee, FL and heavily involved with sketch and standup comedy at Florida State.

AJ’s role as an artistic director for an independent theater organization, as well as his role as a student, have offered him a perspective on how collaboration and expectations are often at odds. Surprisingly, this idea has played a major role for AJ during the pandemic.

Working at a restaurant, overseeing student organizations, and navigating social media have all become more complicated due to varying expectations on how to handle the pandemic.

One of the most striking parts of our conversation was when AJ mentioned that social media tends to feed into our beliefs based in fear, an also makes it harder to focus on things that are most important to us.

A big take away from today’s episode is that ultimately, we can choose our expectations about how social media, and broader social issues, impact our personal lives.
