Daily Devotion:

"A Father to the Fatherless"

Psalm 68:6

New Living Translation

6 God places the lonely in families; he sets the prisoners free and gives them joy. But he makes the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

It was never God's intention that anyone “do life” completely alone. While we know that God is always with us, it is also important to have people to care about us and to share our lives. Scripture tells us that our God sets the lonely in families.

Sometimes we miss the joy of family because it doesn't look the way we expected it to look. For the person without a mother, God can place an older woman in his or her life to give comfort and wisdom. For the unmarried, family may look like a group of friends gathered around at table, laughing and doing life together. Life doesn't always (or ever) look the way we thought it would, and neither does family. A family's members may come through biology, adoption, or the bonds of friendship.

To live joyfully, we must learn to see that family can come in many forms and to embrace the beauty of the unexpected.
