Daily Devotion:
"A Great Reward in Heaven"
Luke 6:23
New Living Translation
23 When that happens, be happy! Yes, leap for joy! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, their ancestors treated the ancient prophets that same way.
Chances are that everyone has, at some point, been excluded or disliked; this is, without a doubt, a painful experience. How are you supposed to respond when someone ignores or hates you (Luke 6:22)? A natural response would be hurt oranger, but Jesus tells believers to respond quite differently. When we're left out, ostracized, or persecuted because of our faith, Jesus says we're to rejoice. We're told to leap for joy! Why would we respond in such a way? Our faithfulness to Christ will result in great rewards in heaven; that's how wecan live joyfully in the face of rejection or abandonment.
The next time someone walks away or mocks you because of your faith, choose joy over bitterness. Remind yourself that you're experiencing the same thing your forefathers experienced and that the rewards are more than anything you could imagine. Then, if you have it in you, go ahead and leap.
