Daily Devotion:
"A Soul-Level Blessing"
Psalm 103:2-4
New Living Translation
2 Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies.
To some, the admonition to “be a person of joy” sounds as doable as growing wings and flying. The phrase Shout for joy! sounds over used and unrealistic. You're either happy or you're not-and I'm not, they think. They've forgotten thattrue, abiding joy comes from the Holy Spirit, and He's all about doing the miraculous to and through ordinary Christians.
When we're born again, we don't become better versions of ourselves; we're entirely re-created. That's a supernatural event, but the miracles don't stop there. Even the most cynical bad-tempered person can become a carrier of joy through the work of the Holy Spirit, who imparts the fruits of the Spirit.
Many Christians have had the pleasure of running into someone who was once irritable only to discover that he or she radiated joy after an encounter with God. If joy sounds as unreachable to you as the moon, take heart: you serve a God of miracles.
