Daily Devotion:

"A Trustworthy Reminder"

2 Peter 1:12-15

New Living Translation

12 Therefore, I will always remind you about these things—even though you already know them and are standing firm in the truth you have been taught. 13 And it is only right that Ishould keep on reminding you as long as I live.14 For our Lord Jesus Christ has shown me that I must soon leave this earthly life,15 so I will work hard to make sure you always remember these things after I am gone.

As believers, we sometimes have a tendency to be complacent, forgetful, and uncommitted despite knowledgeof the truth. Out of Peter's awareness and concern, he pleaded with the believers to be steadfast in their walk with God and to hold fervently to the truth. He recognized that although they were established in the truth, being reminded constantly was essential. He did not want them to take the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord for granted but be enthusiastic and devoted as they live for God.

Brethren, let us examine our attitudes when we are asked and encouraged to lay aside the baggage of this world and hold firmly to the hands of our savior.

We face similar challenges as the Christians of Peter's time, which is, having a roller coaster experience of being on the mountain top followed by being in the valley. It seems to stem from our forgetfulness of who He is and who we are in Him. Many of us can recall divine encounters where we are compelled to make commitments to change, yet we tend to fall short of our commitments. Peter's appeal is relevant to usas we fight the good fight of faith. May God help us to remember where He has brought us from.
