Daily Devotion:

"Beautifully Broken"

Psalms 147:3

New Living Translation

He heals the brokenhearted and bandages their wounds.

What do you do when something’s broken? Depending on what it is, you might attempt to fix it. Maybe you discard it without a second thought. You might feel frustrated that it no longer works the way you want it to work. Brokenness can be a real bummer.

Kintsugi is a Japanese art in which broken pottery is repaired with a gold, platinum, or silver lacquer. The brokenness of the piece is highlighted and not hidden; it's celebrated instead of discarded. The brokenness adds more value and beauty tothe piece. It's tempting to want to hide our brokenness and to be ashamed of our scars. In order to live joyfully, we have to understand that Christ makes our brokenness beautiful. He fills in the cracks with His love, and the end result is more precious and beautiful than anything we could have imagined. Immense joy can follow brokenness if we allow Christ to bind us up.
