Daily Devotion:
"Chosen by God"
1 Peter 1:15-16
New International Version
15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.
Holiness is hard for one to comprehend. It seems unattainable, lofty, and pure. Once, however, I heard a
teacher say that the word “holy” means to be separate. That I can understand. Imagine a miner panning for gold. He sifts through soil and gravel, using special tools to uncover and separate particles of gold. The gold is set apart from the dirt because it is valuable. To be separate, or set apart, is something I can absolutely pursue. As children of God, we are called to be holy, separate from the world, set apart from sin in everything we do. We are
valuable to God which is why He calls us to holiness. So let’s not be afraid of holiness, let’s not confuse the word with something that is unattainable or arrogant.
Let’s be brave in the pursuit of holiness because we are chosen by God and set apart for His purposes.
