8 Young and old alike, teacher as well as student, cast lots for their duties.
To be chosen by lot is simply to be chosen for service. In the big picture, it hardly matters what service. You have your responsibility, I have mine. I have my duties to fulfill, you have yours. And all to the glory of God! What could it possibly matter if your service is more high-profile than mine? When service to God becomes the great equalizer, there's no room for arrogance or humiliation. It is true that we may have been specially called by God in different ways according to his eternal purpose and plan. But as far as we are concerned, God might just as well have thrown the dice.
The only question is: If I compare my gifts with those of others, have I not missed the whole point of it random service in the kingdom?
