Daily Devotion:

"Death Is a Gain"

Philippians 1:21

New Living Translation

21 For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.

For many people, worry is one of the biggest joy stealers they encounter. Can you relate? How joyful do you feel when you're worrying about something? If you were to do a quick search, you'd find that one of the antonyms for worry iscertainty. We tend to worry about things or situations that hold an element of uncertainty.

It may have seemed, to an on looker, that Paul was in the midst of an uncertain time. Was he going to live or die? Was he going to be set free or not? Paul was able to maintain joy because he had certainty regarding what really mattered.

Paul viewed his every breath as devoted to the gospel. To live meant he would continue honoring Christ with his life. To die meant that he would see Christ with his own eyes. It was a win-win situation. We can live joyfully when we're certain about the things that are most important. To live is Christ and to die is gain.
