"Empowered Living: The Role of Self Control in Spiritual Growth"
2 Peter 1:6
New Living Translation
6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness,
Although life is good it has its share of speed bumps, road-blocks and uncertainties. Whatever it is that pushes the pause button on your life can sometimes seem intolerable, especially for a lifestyle that is constantly on fast forward.
There is little room for patience. What then is patience? Why is patience a requirement? The usage of the word 'patience' in Latin is associated with calmness and composure.
1 Patience is to have the capacity to accept or tolerate delay or problems without becoming annoyed or anxious.
2 We are encouraged to be patient during tribulation. (Romans 12:12 KJV) A negative emotion almost alwaysfollows delays, problems or sufferings. While you have liberty to become angry when things go wrong, is it an acceptable practice to allow resentment to consume you? Ephesians 4:26 (KJV).
Ever wonder why God placed our souls in the unpredictable hands of our patience? Luke says, “In your patience possess ye your souls” (Luke 21:19 KJV) Has your patience been tested lately? Are you promised something that you think God has forgotten? Be hopeful. Be prayerful. God will not forget His promises. He said, “...I will not forget you! See, Ihave written your name on the palms of my hands...” (Isaiah 49:15-16NLT).
David was promised the throne of Israel years prior to his crowning. During the waiting period he suffered countless mishaps, especially at the hand of his predecessor, Saul, yet he remained patient and wise. (1 Samuel 18:7-12; 23:8; 24:1-15KJV) Everything God has promised you will come to pass at the right time.
