Daily Devotion:
"Go to Worship…"
Zechariah 7:5
New International Version
5 “Ask all the people of the land and the priests, ‘When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?
Here's a reality check. Think back on last Sunday. Assuming you went to church, can you recall having any conscious thought about getting up and get-ting dressed in eager anticipation of meeting with God? Was there any questioning your mind about whether you would go to church, or did you just take that for granted because it was Sunday morning? Did you go simply out of habit? And if you didn't particularly want to go to church but did anyway, why was that? Was it out of obligation? When you actually got to church, what did you enjoy most? Was it the music, the Lord's Supper or Eucharist, the sermon-or perhaps the socializing? And how did you feel as you left the church building? Had you truly communed with God? Serious soul-searching just might reveal that we may “worship" regularly for numerous reasons other than strictly to please God. But do we really think that pleases God?
The thorny question is: If It's not really and truly for God That “I go to worship," is it still worth going through the motions?
