"God-Confidence..."

Philippians 4:13

The Passion Translation

12–13 I know what it means to lack, and I know what it means to experience overwhelming abundance. For I’m trained in the secret of overcoming all things, whether in fullness or in hunger. And I find that the strength of Christ’s explosive power infuses me to conquer every difficulty.

Confidence is generally referred to as “self-confidence” because we all know that we need to feel good about ourselves if we are ever to accomplish anything in life.

We have been taught that all people have a basic need to believe in themselves. However, that is not the complete truth. More than believing in ourselves—we need to believe in Jesus in us. We can’t really think highly of ourselves apart from Him. We can do amazing things, but only through Christ!

If we believe the false assumption of “self-confidence,” we will create many complicated problems. We will live in fear and insecurity, and we will settle for less than our full potential in Christ.

Don’t be concerned about yourself, your weaknesses, or your strengths. Put your focus squarely on God. If you are weak, He can strengthen you. If you have any strength, it is because He gave it to you. Either way, focus on the Lord and place your confidence in Him.

We do not need self-confidence; we need God-confidence.
