Daily Devotion:
"God is too Touched"
Daniel 9:23
New International Version
23 As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed. Therefore, consider the word and understand the vision
Wouldn't it be great if every time we prayed (or even occasionally) Gabriel would show up to tell us God's response? But he doesn't, does he? Maybe this frustration explains why many people never pray or pray only perfunctory prayers as if never expecting any answer. But How are we to account for all the millions of people who do pray and pray fervently as if they really believe God answers their prayers? Just knowing That Gabriel apparently didn't show up every time Daniel prayed should be of some encouragement, as is the fact that the Bible records hundreds of prayers that seemingly received no response whatsoever from God. What's more, if today's verse tells us anything at all, it is that God is listening to us from the moment we begin to pray! If that doesn't set the mind racing, what does? The God of the universe listening to me? If we get frustrated not hearing clear answers to our prayers, imagine how frustrated God must be when he doesn't hear particularly meaningful prayers from us! Think back on all your prayers. Were any worthy of a divine conversation? Were they serious prayers? Specific prayers? Passionate prayers? Humble Prayers? In particular, how many of your prayers have been deeply confessional prayers like Daniel's? Most of us would have to confess that we rarely pray such agonizing confessional prayers. Most of our prayers are “wish-list prayers." To Sit in anguish and pour out our sins before a holy God might be a new experience for many of us, but well worth doing. Yet it's hard not to think that, for such a prayer, God is too touched to speak.
The prayerful question is: When was the last time any prayer of mine might possibly have moved God to tears?
