"God Who Brings Victory in the Valleys… "
1 Kings 20:28
New International Version
28 The man of God came up and told the king of Israel, “This is what the Lord says: ‘Because the Arameans think the Lord is a god of the hills and not a god of the valleys, I will deliver this vast army into your hands, and you will know that I am the Lord.’”
Even for us today, it's hard not to think that God is more a "God of the hills" than a "God of the valleys." When everything's going great, isn't God good! But when nothing is going right, we begin to lament, "Where is God when we need him!" When you think about it, it is not all that far removed from what the Arameans had surmised- that "hill gods" have the easier task. What makes our God great is not so much his prowess on the mountaintops, but how he brings unexpected victories in the valleys of difficulty and despair. It is in the most serious battles that God reveals himself most clearly.
The encouraging question for the discouraged is: With a God who brings victory in the valleys, how can I possibly not prevail?
